Sauna: 80 meters under

Krongruvvägen 50, Idkerberget, Sweden

Probably, the most unusual sauna in the world is located in the Swedish province of Dalarna.  This sauna is located in the abandoned Tuna Hästberg mine 80 meters deep underground. For four centuries up until 1968, iron ore was mined here, and now the mine is open to visitors. The Lady of the Mine sauna ritual is a tribute to the creature (goddess?) that, according to legend, has been watching over the mine and could warn of upcoming dangers or show where the large ore deposits were. This is a unique guided sauna experience where you also get the opportunity to swim in the mine's crystal-clear azure water.

In the flooded part of the mine, you can also scuba dive. The visibility here is always more than 30 meters, so you can see well-preserved antique mine carts, doors, stairs, and other artefacts at the depth!

Sessions are booked for private groups, please note that in order to reach the sauna, you also need to book a guided Mine Tour or Adventure Tour.

Bonus fact: equipment is still delivered on the same rails that were used to transport ore when the mine was in operation.
