900-Year-Old Church Holds a Century of Hidden History in Selvanera

The church of Sant Sebastià i Sant Isidre de Selvanera, a local landmark standing for 900 years, has been more than just a chapel to the residents of Selvanera. For the past hundred years, it has been a focal point for stories that have both amazed and, in some cases, horrified the villagers. One constant reminder of one of the strangest episodes in the church's history is the empty niche upstairs where the old church bells once hung. In 1945, a plane carrying a new bishop crashed just outside the village. The congregation quickly formed a chain to carry the wreckage and the six survivors – including the bishop – into the church.
