Ringovės piliakalnis, a 13th century hillfort in Kaunas

Pilike, a hillfort in Kaunas dating back to the 13th century, is located on Linksmoju Kalnu where the rivers Ringovės and Krestinavos converge. Shaped like a quadrangle, it is enclosed by a ditch 135 meters long and 32 meters wide, with the upper part 3 meters higher and the lower part 2 meters lower than the center. A 20-meter-wide entrance can be found halfway along the higher part, narrowing to a 1-meter-wide door. The entrance, 17 meters long, 3.5 meters high, and 19 meters wide, is covered by a 4-meter-high, 0.5-meter-thick wall, with a 4-meter-high staircase leading up to the upper part. Noticeable features include a natural slope towards a 13-meter-wide platform 1 meter lower and a 2-3 meter-wide terrace 3-4 meters lower towards the back. The hillfort was studied by the Institute of History in 1960 and 1972.
