The Puerta de Bisagra Nueva, known as one of the best-known city gates of Toledo, Spain, stands atop what was once a city of Moorish origin. constructed in 1559 by Alonso de Covarrubias, this gate carries the coat of arms of the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, as the new main entrance to the city. However, it is rooted in the overthrow of its predecessor.
