Kamennoostrovsky Ave., 61, Saint Petersburg, Russia, 197022

The house belonged to the hereditary honorary citizen, engineer Arthur Fedorovich Zimmerman. The house was built in two phases. Initially, an L-shaped corner house was erected. The picturesque five-story building was designed by architect Lidval in 1906-1907. In 1907, Zimmerman and Lidval received an honorary diploma from the city council in a competition for the best facade designs.

The house was built on the corner of Kamennoostrovsky Prospect and Vologodskaya Street (now Chapygina Street). Unfortunately, the tower with the observation deck that was located on the corner of the building has not survived to this day. The Zimmerman house was especially distinguished by its windows, of which there were about 25 different types on the facade. Multi-room panoramic apartments were located on all floors of the building. The building’s decoration features light plaster and bright brown glazed tiles.
The facade of the house is set slightly back from the street line, and the narrow front garden is separated by a low fence with flower boxes.
The main decoration of the house is its windows—there are about 25 types.
On each floor, there are three large apartments with 5, 6, and 7 rooms.
In 1913, architect Niedermeyer added three wings to the building. In the facade design along Vologodskaya Street (Chapygina), Niedermeyer repeated Lidval’s composition and completed the previously started courtyard wings.
In the one-story wing in the courtyard were the stables.
In the 1960s, on the end wall facing Chapygina Street, artist Akselrod created a decorative panel called "Friendship" in the sgraffito style using a jackhammer. (Nearby was the "Friendship" hotel, now the "Andersen Hotel"). The wall of the house was decorated with a panel on the theme of friendship among the peoples of the world. One of the heroines in the sgraffito has six toes on her foot.
