Pazo de Tor: Restoring the 14th-century Baroque Tower

This month, work begins on the consolidation and repair of a significant portion of the Pazo de Tor in Monforte de Lemos. The Diputación de Lugo, the local government, will oversee the works, which are expected to reveal more about the constructive characteristics of this architectural artifact, which has not received the attention it merits due to its historical significance. The original Pazo de Tor, built in the 14th century, was mostly destroyed during the 15th-century revolt known as the Revuelta Irmandiña, while the wing of the manor where the work is taking place was set on fire during the French invasion of 1809. Students of architecture and history are particularly interested in this project, which may shed new light on the construction methods and design of the manor.
