Östergötlands runinskift 238: A Puzzling Rune Stone

A rune stone in Bankeberg, Linköping, Sweden, has puzzled translators for over a century. The inscription may have been written in an old script, but one thing is clear: it tells the story of a move after an unknown man named Gervi.

The rune stone in Bankeberg, Vikingstads socken, and Linköpings kommun, Östergötland, was found in 1910 and moved to its current site in 1914. The inscription on the rune stone is difficult to interpret. Despite multiple attempts to decipher the inscription, there has been no definitive translation. One translation proposal is as follows: 'Toleir moved this stone after Gervi'.
