One of the most renowned youth groups in Stockholm during the 1950s was Spiltagang, who terrorized Östermalm. The gang's members grow up under considerably simpler conditions than what was common in the area at the time. Many come from crowded homes in the garden houses scattered around the district. The name they take is from the playground Spiltan, located at the corner of Styrmansgatan and Linnégatan. At first, the youths engage in pleasant, innocent boyish pranks. Over time, the gang becomes known for various activities such as public drunkenness, assault, and brawls.
