In 2025, archaeological excavations resumed on a Roman site in the countryside village of Saint Romain-en-Gal in France, uncovering a monumental, circular mausoleum dating back to 50 AD. Modeled after the Mausoleum of Augustus in Rome, this impressive structure is estimated to have a diameter of 15 meters and a height of 6 meters, making it one of the largest and best-preserved mausoleums found in Gaul. The owner of the mausoleum, a member of the aristocratic elite, remains unknown.
