Christina Piper's Baroque Manor House: Christinehof

Christinehof Castle is located in Tomelilla Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden. The first estate on the site, Sjöstrup, was named in the 14th-century and, according to tradition, was owned by a German noble named Snakenborg. In 1387, the estates Kolstrup and Sjöstrup were united to the estate Andrarum. However, it was not until 1725 that Andrarum was bought by Christina Piper (1673–1752), the widow of Carl Piper (1647–1716), head of the field chancellery under King Carl XII.

Although their family was rich, it was Christina who would secure their fame. She built the present castle, which stands today, in the German Baroque style and named it Christinehof after herself. The castle is part of an eco park and visitors can explore its gardens and interior. Christina's decision to build a grand castle in the Baroque style was a bold statement of her independent spirit and refusal to be overlooked.
