The lavoir of Pennesières, located in the heart of the village, was more than just a place to wash clothes. It was a symbol, a monument to the progress of this commune in the Haute-Saône, France. Built in 1822 by the architect René Attiret, it was one of the first covered lavoirs, a testament to the modernization of the village. The lavoir, open on three sides with two large bays and two doors facing the street, has an inscription in Latin: 'More fluentis aquæ labuntur lucida nobis', which translates to 'What is radiant runs like the fluid water for us'. The fontaine-lavoir was listed as a historical monument on August 3, 2004. Today, visitors can still visit this historical monument and appreciate its architectural and cultural significance.
