Today, La Salina Palace stands on Plateresque plaza in Salamanca, having been built in 1538 by Alonso de Messía Carrillo. The palace showcases the Plateresque style with Italian influences, featuring an airy facade, courtyard with arches, and capitals and ménsulas of great interest. The palace was passed down to Gonzalo Messía Carrillo in 1549 and was originally not intended to be a residence. It served as the headquarters for the salt monopoly until 1870, before being owned by the Diputación Provincial since 1881. The tale of a transfer of the palace to Juan Alonso de Fonseca is possibly accurate but the source is vague.
