La Masia Codella

La Masia Codella is located in the municipality of Les Preses (Garrotxa) and is included in the Inventari del Patrimoni Arquitectònic de Catalunya. Built primarily of volcanic stone, which was later whitewashed, it is a rectangular building with a roof of two water layers, with slopes on the lateral facades. A noticeable feature of the Masia Codella is a wing on the south facade, with a row of arrowslits (6) that protected access to the house. By the 16th century, these were large farmhouses with multiple structures, surrounded by a stone wall.

The valley of La Pinya has a long history, with the first settlements dating back to prehistory. Masia Codella and its neighbor, Vigatà, were the most important houses in this sector of the Pla de Les Preses, which lies deep in La Pinya valley. The two houses were connected by a path that led to a small hill where there was a chapel dedicated to Saint Genesius.
