Suspended in a dance of time, these ancient statues stand, watching over the eternal slumber of their architect. Carved with exquisite detail, King Amenhotep III is depicted in a tranquil seated position, his hands resting on his kneecaps, eyes gazing towards the ancient river. Two slender figures, sculpted with care, stand beside the king – Queen Tiye, his beloved wife, and Queen Mutemwiya, his devoted mother – and the elusive river god Hapi, near the river's edge. The southern colossus stands proud and grand, while the northern one, bearing a crack in its lower half, tells a tale of a later attempt at reconstruction.
