Houlgate's Grand Hospitality: Grand Hotel d'Houlgate

In 1858, Jacques Baumier established a real estate society to create a new seaside resort in Normandy. It was named Houlgate, and its centerpiece, the Grand Hotel d'Houlgate, was constructed between 1859 and 1904 by Jacques Baumier's son, René-Jacques Baumier. This monumental Belle Époque structure dominates the beachfront with its extravagant design. The hotel was built along Rue Baumier, in parallel with the sea. Its facades and roofs, including those of the guard house, are protected as historical monuments. However, the building of the old stables is not. The hotel features an iron balcony and today, it is known as Les Pléiades. Despite its transformation, the Grand Hotel d'Houlgate remains a significant architectural landmark on the Côte Fleurie, a testament to the Belle Époque style and the vision of its creator.
