Bab el Bhar, which translates to gate of the sea, is a historic city gate on the east side of the medina of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. The gate is also known as Porte De France, the gate of France.
This structure marks the separation between the ancient medina and the modern city. The gate has undergone many alterations over its lifespan, and its current form is an archway topped by a crenellated parapet.
