Flamenco's Champion: The Monument to Pastora Imperio

Pastora Imperio, born in 1889 with the name Pastora Imperio, was a prominent figure in Spanish culture, capturing the hearts of audiences with her performances in flamenco and cinema. She made her stage debut at the age of 10, but it was later that she became a star. In 2006, the monument to Pastora Imperio was unveiled in Seville, Andalusia, Spain, at the intersection of Velázquez and O'Donnell streets. The monument was a 2006 creation of sculptor Luis Álvarez Duarte and the result of the full patronage of Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, the 18th Duchess of Alba. The statue depicts Imperio in a daring, defiant pose, her voluminous skirts swaying in the wind. The unveiling of the monument drew widespread attention and was attended by the then Mayor of Seville, Alfredo Sánchez Monteseirín, as well as Imperio's family and Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart herself.
