Ekolsund: A Former Residence of Sweden's Royals

Ekolsund, located in Enköping Municipality in Uppsala County, Sweden, is a historic landmark boasting an impressive 18th-century baroque architecture. Designed in the second half of the 17th century by Simon de la Vallée and Nicodemus Tessin, it was consolidated by the Crown in 1542. For a period of 33 years from 1578 to 1611, it served as the residence for Princess Sophia of Sweden. In 1747, it was acquired by the crown prince Gustav III who later became the king. In 1785, he sold it to the Seton family, who owned it until 1912. Today, Ekolsund is the site of Ekolsunds slott & Wärdshus.
