Johan Gabriel Stenbock and Nicodemus Tessin the Elder: A Noble Collaboration

In the 17th century, Johan Gabriel Stenbock, a notable Swedish statesman, and Nicodemus Tessin the Elder, a celebrated architect, collaborated on the construction of Sjöö Castle between 1669 and 1678. The nearby Church of Holm, built in 1678, has a connection with Sjöö Castle. Andreas Hackzelius, the first Rector of the Parish of Holm, utilized the church facilities. The patronage of the Church of Holm, which consisted of high-ranking statesmen and royal and other high noble friends and family members of Johan Gabriel Stenbock, who owned Sjöö Castle, supported the church. The castle was owned by the Stenbock family until 1813, when it was sold to Johan Gustaf Banér. The Banér family still owns the castle today.
