Church of San Benito Abad

Built by the master craftsmen of Yepes, Church of San Benito Abad stands as the main attraction of this medieval town. Begun in the 16th century by Master Craftsman Alonso Covarrubias, the construction was authorized by Cardinal Juan Pardo de Tavera. The church features a plant of saloon, four tramos without a crucero, a polygonal-shaped chapel mayor and two absidal capillas colaterales. The thin limestone columns, with their Renaissance tracery, grace the interior, while the star-crossed vaults hold the ceiling aloft. The striking bell tower, symbol of the town, reaches a height of 70 meters, with the first two bodies representing the 16th century and the last body a testament to the 17th-century Herrerian style. The church also features a baroque altar and a museum of goldsmithing from the 15th to 19th centuries.
