A Château Steeped in Time and Art: The Tale of Château Grimaldi in

Built on a hilltop in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France, the Château Grimaldi was originally a fortress occupied by the Greeks and Romans. The present structure was built in 1309 by Rainier Grimaldi, a distant ancestor of the Monaco royal house. With crenelations surmounting its towers and keep, the castle features original medieval motifs and is situated around a triangular courtyard. Over time, it served as the residence of the Governors and later, barracks and a hospital. Now, owned by the city, it is known as le Château Musée Grimaldi and is an exhibition center for contemporary art and a museum of modern art.
