Ancient fire at the colonial forum of Tarraco

The colonial forum of Tarraco, located in the modern city of Tarragona, Spain, is an ancient Roman archaeological site. It is a part of the World Heritage Site known as the Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco, inscribed in Cairns on 2 December 2000. However, the lower forum was destroyed by fire in Late Antiquity, and its destruction has been linked, under a working hypothesis, to the political and military instability surrounding the revolt of Magnentius in the mid-fourth century. The upper forum remains, offering a glimpse into the grandeur of the Roman Empire.
