A palace full of a famous architect's treasures

Joaquín Saldaña y López built the Palacete del duque de Plasencia, a manor for the duke of Plasencia, in 1912. The palace, with its French-style architecture and characteristically luxurious decorations, features an ivy-covered courtyard with a hidden staircase leading to the main entrance and a central hall illuminated by natural light, extending to all floors and surrounded by galleries. In 2014, it was bought by Norman Foster and his wife for 9 million euros. The building is protected due to its location in an area affected by the declaration of the Beti Jai fronton as a cultural asset in January 2011. Today, it houses Norman Foster's extensive archives, which include over 74,000 documents, sketches, models, correspondence, and personal objects.
