Nestled in Firminy, Loire department, France, the Château des Bruneaux is a relic of the 18th century, initially owned by the Anselmet family. Known for propelling the charcoal-rich land into unparalleled wealth, they passed the château to the Charpin family via Anne-Marie Anselmet's marriage to Jean-Baptiste de Charpin. The Charpin family, in a royal homage, built the château in the opulent style of Louis XVI. In 1896, the château switched hands to the Chapelon family, and eventually, in 1967, it was expropriated and made property of the commune. Today, this 18th-century wonder houses temporary exhibitions and is partially inscribed as a monument historique in 1975. It stands boisedly surrounded, and for a few years now, the town square of Firminy has recreated a medieval garden. In summer, a product market unfolds in the garden.
