1:a:en:The 1st southern fort (battery) is one of 20 of the pearls in the necklace of fortifications in the capital of the Russian state. Its construction began in 1856 and took a total of 20 days - from 2 to 25 March according to the old style. Since the forts are on artificial islands, saws were driven in for their construction. The mass of the island - wooden huts filled with earth and submerged in a certain order. On the construction, there were 1600 people every day.
At 1 battery, a total of 13 guns were installed - 2 bomb guns and 11 six-inch, 2 of which were rifled.
In 1967, after the end of the war, the temporary construction was decided to rebuild. 198,231 rubles and 9 and a half kopecks were allocated for this. On the defensive construction, additional expenses were not spared. The quality of the materials and work was monitored by a specially created commission.
Up to the Great Patriotic War, the soldiers-artillerymen served a difficult service in the fort. On 16 September 1941, the fort entered the battle. The guns of the fort defended the Little Road of Life - the only lifeline connecting Leningrad with the Mainland. Neither 9 bombs, nor 300 shells could erase the face of the earth from the fortress, which was built by General Major O. G. Dzyckanec.
