The 9-Meter Pinocchio Sculpture by Jim Dine in Borås, Sweden

At the southern end of Allégatan in Borås, Sweden, stands a striking 9-meter sculpture named Walking to Borås, the work of artist Jim Dine. Unveiled on May 16, 2008, the sculpture signaled the opening of the first edition of the Borås International Sculpture Biennial. The sculpture represents Jim Dine’s unique interpretation of the Pinocchio story, serving as a metaphor for art and the ultimate alchemical transformation. The construction of the sculpture was met with local debate, but in March 2007, the local government agreed to accept a donation of 8.5 million crowns for public art in Borås. A smaller 60-centimeter high bronze model of Walking to Borås is on display at the Borås Art Museum.
