Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd's Knotted Gun: A Bronze Tribute to John Lennon's Friend

The Knotted Gun, also known as Non-Violence, is a bronze sculpture created by Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd in 1980. The sculpture was a tribute to the friend of John Lennon, who was murdered that same year. The oversized representation of a Colt Python.357 Magnum revolver with its barrel tied in a knot was initially intended for John Lennon’s memorial Strawberry Fields in Central Park, but was not placed there due to theft concerns. In 1988, the Luxembourg government bought the sculpture and donated it to the United Nations, where it now stands outside of the headquarters. The sculpture serves as a symbol against violence and war and honors the peace advocacy of John Lennon. There are around 30 sculptures of Non-Violence around the world, with half of them being in Sweden.
