In 1691, the Tumacácori Mission settled on the Santa Cruz River's eastern bank as a Jesuit outpost. In 1751, it trembled under an O'odham uprising. A fancy Spanish colonial church appeared in 1757 at the abandoned mission, only for the Jesuits to be escorted out in 1768. Once again, the deed was vacant. In 1806, Alejo García Conde claimed the mission. Alas, the deed went missing in 1841. By 1843, its ghostly wails were officially logged.
