Torre de Can Pinya

The Torre de Can Pinya is a protected cultural site located in Subirats (Alt Penedès), Spain. Despite initial misconceptions that it was a Roman columbarium, its architectural characteristics suggest a different origin. The tower is built with a rectangular plan, although its exact function is not known. It is possible that it was used for defensive purposes, although a concrete date cannot be established without an archaeological study. The tower bears a resemblance to the Torre d'en Viola in Calafell, which may date back to the Islamic period. An unusual structural feature and archaeological finding of a fragment of Arabic ceramic, potentially dating from the 11th century, embedded in the wattle and daub has been discovered.
