The tower that sent signals over Catalonia

Standing 858 meters above sea level, the Serrat de les Torretes is a remote ridge in the municipality of Martorell. It is here that the ruins of La Torre Grimenella can be found. La Torre Grimenella is a watchtower that was deemed a cultural asset of national interest. The tower dates back to a time when watchtowers were crucial communication centers during wars and conflicts. Its ruins allow appreciation of its quadrangular plant and regular stone masonry, where limestone and red sandstone are mixed.

The stones are arranged in horizontal fillets, except for those at the level of the loopholes, where both horizontal and vertical arrangements are combined to achieve a regular position of the openings. The openings are defined with vertical slabs. The eastern and western walls are preserved intact up to the ground floor. In the middle of the northern and southern walls, there are wide openings that conceal the position of the access door. The interior and the area near the monument are covered by a strong layer of destruction.
