The Opéra national de Lorraine, formerly known as Opéra de Nancy et de Lorraine, is a French opera company and opera house located in the province of Lorraine, France. Discovered in 1758 during the reign of King Stanislas Leszczyński, the original theatre behind the Museum of Fine Arts was tragically destroyed by fire in 1906. The current Opéra national de Lorraine, constructed in 1919, is located on Place Stanislas and was designed by Joseph Hornecker in the classical style combined with art nouveau elements. In 2006, the Ministry of Culture and Communication awarded the opera house the title Opéra national ('National Opera'). The company has undergone restoration in 1994 and today boasts an extraordinary auditorium that can seat 1050 guests. All productions are accompanied by the Orchestra of the National Opera of Lorraine.
