Built in 1756, the Doric Gate of Sainte-Catherine was part of Stanisław Leszczyński's urban plans for the city of Nancy. The gate's Doric style was chosen to pay tribute to its noble dedicatee, Catherine Opalinska, who was the mother of the Queen of France, Marie Leszczyńska. Despite its initial placement near the main square campus, the gate was moved due to security concerns in 1761, not 1768.
