Font de la Plaça Miró - A testament to a local benefactor

Built in the 19th century, the Font de la Plaça Miró is a significant landmark in Vilanova i la Geltrú. Constructed by Francisco de Paula Villar Lozano in 1861, the monument was a tribute to the local benefactor Josep Anton Vidal i Pascual. The fountain, with its geometric and Catalan motifs, stands as a testament to Vidal's generosity and the town's gratitude. Despite claims that the fountain gave the town its identity prior to its official name, this remains to be corroborated. Over time, the fountain has been restored in 1962 and 1983, standing today as a monument to the town's past and a landmark for its future. The Plaça de Miró de Montgròs, where the fountain is located, is also a protected space, adding to its historical significance.
