The stone that named the village: An ancient enigma

Stora Släbro is a village in Sankt Nicolai parish, Nyköping, Sweden. The name of the village is believed to have been taken from Södermanlands Runinskrifter 45, a rune stone discovered in its vicinity, though its exact provenance is unknown. Today, the stone stands 1.13 meters high, 1.52 meters wide, and 0.26 meters thick, its granite body weathered by the centuries. The runes etched onto it whisper stories of a time long past. Translated, they read: 'Gerfast, Estfare erected this stone in memory of Frösten, his father, and after Rang, his brother.'
