Welcome to the Liberty Building in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, United States. Originally home to Bankers Life Insurance & WHO (AM) Radio, this iconic structure has been a city landmark since 1923. Located at the southwest corner of 6th Avenue and Grand Avenue, the 12-story building rises to a height of 174 feet (53 m).
Designed by the prominent architectural firm Proudfoot, Bird & Rawson, the Liberty Building serves as a cornerstone of the city's downtown architecture. It currently provides a mix of retail, office, and residential spaces, and is connected to the Des Moines Skywalk system.
Today, the building houses the Hyatt Place Hotel, a bank, and a fitness center. In 2008, Nelson Construction and K.C. Holdings rehabilitated the building. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010, the structure remains a prominent part of the local landscape.
