The towering testament: Coruna's Millennium Obelisk

Along the Paseo Maritimo in Coruna, the Millennium Obelisk stands as a testament to the city's cultural and historical identity. Completed in 2001, this glass and steel structure stands 46 meters tall, marking the start of the 21st century. Its design showcases Coruna's embrace of modern design. For the first 13 meters of the obelisk, intricate engravings depict the history of Coruna's main events and notable persons on the crystals. These crystals, weighing a total of 3 tonnes, were brought from the Netherlands.

The obelisk consists of 147 crystals, each measuring 3mm in thickness and treated at a temperature of 800°C. At night, the obelisk shines with 12 sections of radiant lights that create a stunning display. Lights illuminate the entire structure from the bottom up, totaling 53,100 watts. The lights turn on consecutively on the 1st of January, beautifully marking the beginning of the new year.
