Santo Antón Castle, situated at the entrance of Coruña's Bay, is a structure that commenced in the 16th century and was declared a monument in 1949. Since 1968, it houses the Museum Arqueolóxico e Histórico da Coruña. The castle's history, however, is not associated with peace. In the 15th century, it functioned as a lighthouse, known as the 'lume de santo Antón'. Between the 16th and 18th centuries, it served as a defensive building and prison. Notable inmates include Manuel Blanco Romasanta, known as the 'wolfman of Allariz', who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1854 and was later transferred to Ceuta, where he perished. Today, the castle stands as a monument to Spain's troubled past.
