The Obelisk of the Corners, symbolising a column, commands a presence in the heart of A Coruña city centre. Erected in 1895, it was a testament to Aureliano Linares Rivas, a politician who served as a deputy, senator, and minister during Queen Maria Cristina’s reign. Initiated by the city council of A Coruña in 1893, the committee's decision on the monument's design and funding would lead to the focal point of debate today. Architect Gabriel Vitini Alonso took charge of the project design, with Antonio de Mesa handling the foundation work. The monument was unveiled on February 10, 1895.
