The Unique Romanesque Church Deviating from the Plan

Sant Feliu de Barruera is a Romanesque church located in Vall de Boí, a commune within the valley and Alta Ribagorça of the province of Lleida, Spain. The churches of Sant Climent, Taüll, Sant Joan de Boí, Santa Eulàlia d’Erill la Vall, and Santa Maria de Taüll, similar in date to the 11th century, are among the eight Catalan Romanesque Churches of Vall de Boí included in the UNESCO world heritage site in November 2000. Unlike other churches in the valley, Sant Feliu boasts a unique nave, consisting of a barrel vault and a semi-circular apse toward the east.

Divided into three bays, the choir is identified by the triumphal arc. The nave is illuminated by three straight bays. A lateral chapel can be found in the north, but the principal apse displays decorative elements the lateral chapel lacks; it remains uncertain whether this deviation is due to a departure from the original construction plan or other factors.
