A church captured on celluloid

Perched on a hillside in the Valley of Boí, Sant Joan de Boí is a Romanesque church that resembles a movie set. Constructed in the 11th century, it shares much in common with the eight other Catalonian Romanesque Churches declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2000. What sets Sant Joan de Boí apart, however, is its role in movie history. Sant Joan de Boí has been used as a backdrop in several films, including 'The Lord of the Rings', 'Troy', and 'Kingdom of Heaven'. Today, visitors can walk its ancient steps and hear the distant toll of bells that tell tales of a distant time.
