Furusund, an island in the Stockholm archipelago of Sweden, has a history dating back to the 13th century. Once a vital shipping route, it's now a popular tourist destination. Notable historical sites include a windmill from 1722 and a säteri, which was once home to the famous Swedish artist August Strindberg. However, Furusund's claim to fame is the ancient compass rose engraved into the rock face in 1463, during the reign of King Gustav III.
