The Persisting Musician: A Timeless Sardana in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat's Core

For a figure once embraced in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat's joyous celebrations, the Monument a la Sardana now stands, fragmented and headless, in its park. The intriguing legacy of untold pledges and unfulfilled dreams intriguingly entices the curious, who yearn to unearth its hidden stories.

Constructed in 1966, the Monument a la Sardana – an uncolored, incomplete sculpture – was the creation of Ramon Sabi i Serra, located in the heart of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (renowned as Llobregat Barcelonès). The sculpture depicted a Sardana musician, gracefully positioned on a Thonet chair and playing a tible, selected to symbolize L'Hospitalet de Llobregat as the Pubilla de la sardana. It was the seventh city in a series initiated in 1960. Over the years, the studied muse of time weathered the sculpture's clay elements, leaving it as a significant piece within the Inventari del Patrimoni Arquitectònic de Catalunya. The resilient, albeit damaged sculpture continues to captivate the inquisitive, inviting them to explore its silent yet tantalizing history.
