The mansion that got upgraded by a Scottish magnate

The mansion at Billdals gård, located in the Billdals park in the city district of Askim and in the Billdals primary area in southern Göteborg, is a historic manor house that has a rich history. The first known owner of the estate was the Prytz family in 1862. In 1862, the estate was bought by the well-known merchant and timber baron James Robertson Dickson who spent hundreds of thousands of kronor on its refurbishment. Dickson had the old house demolished, built the large villa, and expanded the garden and park in English style.

The estate was used by Dickson as a summer residence. The architect of the house was Johan August Westerberg. After Dickson's death in 1873, the estate was taken over by the architect and contractor August Krüger. In 1890, the estate was bought by merchant Charles Felix Lindberg and after twenty years, it was bequeathed to merchant Gustaf Werner who owned it until his death in 1948.
