Palacio Huerto Ruano: A Manor House in Lorca, Spain

Palacio Huerto Ruano, a manor house, was built in 1879 in Lorca, Spain. Raimundo Ruano Blázquez, a politician and successful businessman with ties to Edinburgh, was the original owner. The palacio was later owned by Simón Mellado Benítez and, from 1903 to 1917, housed the new Cartagena Bank branch. In the 1980s, the Ayuntamiento initiated preparations for the Museum of Lorca to be housed in the Palacio Huerto Ruano. In 1993, it was declared a cultural heritage site, and in 1996, the municipal corporation purchased it, preventing its deterioration and preserving the city's heritage. The restored paintings by Guimbarda can be found in the municipal restoration workshop. The Institute Universitario Propio de Estudios Fiscales y Financieros of the Universidad de Murcia will soon reside in Palacio Huerto Ruano.
