In 1847, the first Bethel church was established in Douala. This first Christian church served as the foundation for the community's religious life for the following century.
In 1947, the Temple du Centenaire was constructed to celebrate the hundred years of the original Bethel church. It was built as a monument to mark this significant anniversary and to honor the history of the congregation.
Today, the Temple du Centenaire remains a place of worship. It is affiliated with the Evangelical Church of Cameroon and continues to stand as a historic monument in Douala.
