Harbottle Castle, a picturesque ruin in Northumberland, England, is steeped in history. Built in 1154 by the Umfraville family, it served as a defence against the Scots until it was captured in 1174, only to be rebuilt more strongly. In 1296, it withstood a siege by 40,000 men under Robert de Ros. The castle was taken by the Scots in the 1310s, marking another significant event in its tumultuous history.
