The hillfort that was there in Iron Age Lithuania

Utena county, in Lithuanian countryside, hides a testament to the Iron Age. The Likančių piliakalnis archaeological site and settlement, a registered cultural monument until 2005-12-19, is located near Užpaliai, 1 km northwest of Užpaliai, and 450 meters west of Vaiskūnų. The enclosure, with an oval shape and a size of 27x17 meters, is erected over a wooden palisade and constructed with earthworks. The mounds that make up the enclosure are 5.5-15 meters high and have a dark brown color.

There is a dwelling site covering 0.5 ha within the enclosure at Likančių piliakalnis. The site was first investigated by the Institute of History in 1958 and 1970. The Lithuanian Government declared it a cultural monument on 1998-05-19; Nr.612. The territory of the Likančių piliakalnis cultural monument is 1.1 ha. The area of the visual protection zone of the Likančių piliakalnis cultural monument is 865000 m².
