The hidden chapel's unexpected art

Situated in the Museum National de Escultura complex in Valladolid, Spain, the Iglesia de San Benitio el Viejo has hosted an impressive art collection for centuries. Originally serving as the titular chapel for the Casa del Sol, the palace of Diego Sarmiento de Acuña, the I Count of Gondomar, the church experienced many years of patronage, reconstruction, and state acquisitions. Today, the church is an integral part of the museum's collection, home to the collection of the Museum Nacional de Reproducciones Artísticas – a collection of exact reproductions of classical pieces, primarily produced in the 19th century using the now-prohibited technique of the vaciado.
