The Basilica Julia, nestled within the Roman Forum, possesses quite the cryptic tale. Initiated by Julius Caesar, it was Augustus who ultimately completed its construction, dedicating the basilica to his adopted father. Known as the headquarters for the Centumviri, a court handling inheritance matters, it met its fiery demise in 283 AD. A quick rebuild was orchestrated by Emperor Septimius Severus, yet part of it now houses a Christian church, leaving archaeologists intrigued by its numerous phases.
