Mount Desert Despair: Will the Light Last Another Hurricane?

Can the Lighthouse Survive Another Bashing by Mother Nature?

Mount Desert Light, standing on Mount Desert Rock, near Mount Desert Island, Maine, has always been tough. The current lighthouse was built in 1847, but the original station started in 1830. Over the years, it's faced numerous trials, especially from severe storms. The latest danger comes from Hurricane Daisy (1962) or Hurricane Bill (2009). As the community bands together to save this cherished symbol, we'll see if it can fend off any more assaults from dear old Mother Nature.
